About Us
At Mama Dee’s Texas Whiskey Cakes, family, flavor, and tradition come together in every bite. What began as a simple act of love in the kitchen has grown into a heartfelt family business, led by the dynamic mother-and-son team, Delores “Mama Dee” Buyck Burns and Gerald A. Buyck.
Together, they’ve mastered the art of blending old-fashioned recipes with true Texas hospitality. Each cake is handcrafted from scratch, using time-tested family recipes and a generous serving of love. You can truly taste the warmth, care, and Southern spirit baked into every slice.
At 80 years young, Mama Dee is still doing what she loves, baking her famous pound cakes and whiskey cakes, sharing joy straight from her kitchen to yours. Meanwhile, Gerald takes pride in spreading that same love beyond the kitchen, making sure the world gets to experience a little piece of Mama Dee’s magic.
Their philosophy is simple: “Together, we shine, inside and outside the kitchen.”
And if you haven’t yet, don’t forget to ask about Mama Dee’s famous Whiskey Ice Cream Sundae recipe, it’s pure Southern bliss in a bowl.

As a kid, my mom had a special way of waking me up on Saturday mornings, and she never had to say a word. Instead, she’d bake my favorite pound cake. About twenty minutes into baking, she’d crack open the oven door just enough to let the sweet, buttery aroma drift through the house, and right under my bedroom door. Like clockwork, I’d find myself sleepwalking into the kitchen, drawn by that irresistible scent.
That was in 1974. Fast forward fifty years to 2024, my birthday was approaching, and my mom decided to surprise me. She baked that same pound cake, froze it, and mailed it straight to my doorstep. Moments before the mailman arrived, I caught a whiff of that familiar sweetness, butter, sugar, and love filling my home once again.
That’s when it hit me: “Eureka!” It was time to share my mother’s pound cake with the world.
Now, everyone agrees, there’s nothing quite like it. We’re proud to announce the opening of our new scratch kitchen in Lewisville, Texas, where every cake is baked with the same love and tradition that started it all.
